The very first gold coins produced at the Philadelphia Mint were 1795 half eagles, struck from July 31 through September 16, 1795. Walter Breen initially believed that this variety, which he designated 1-A, was the very first variety, most certainly included in the delivery of July 31. Several small groups of die marriages exist for 1795 eagles. However, they are only partially die linked, thus an exact emission sequence is partly guesswork.
