Andrew W. Pollock, III, listed this pattern with 1876 issues based on the opinion of Walter Breen, who attributed the design to Anthony Paquet. Previously, noted numismatists including Edgar Adams, William Woodin, and J. Hewitt Judd all included this with patterns of 1873. To date, no documentary evidence has come to light proving the actual date these patterns were produced.

Obverse:
Similar in style to the circulating trade dollars of the date, Liberty seated to left, ribbon with LIBERTY inscribed in her left hand, olive branch in upheld right hand, 13 stars around, no date below.
Reverse:
Similar overall to the reverse of the circulating trade dollars of the date.
Commentary:
"Trade Dollar. No Date!"
