This half dime pattern features James Longacre’s Indian Princess design in a plain field with the date below. The reverse is that used for circulating examples of this denomination. This Bass Collection coin is an exceptional Proof example, one of the finest known. Just five or six such patterns exist. The design in a plain field imparts a cameo-like appearance that many find very pleasing. This particular combination of obverse and reverse dies provides no national recognition for the issue.

Provenance:
Purchased from Julian Leidman, August 14, 1971.
Obverse:
Longacre's "Indian Princess" design, here seated to left, liberty pole and cap in right hand, left hand on globe, Western Hemisphere depicted on globe, ribbon on globe reads LIBERTY, furled flags behind Liberty, date below.
