Flying Eagle cent! The term immediately elicits images of the very famous 1856 Flying Eagle cent missing from all but the most advanced cent collections. Among pattern cents beginning in 1854 and continuing through 1858, the number of different Flying Eagle issues is extensive. This particular pattern issue is the first of the series and is known in combination with two different reverse designs. The same obverse design, on large cent-size planchets, also exist dated 1855.
