The half eagles dated 1806 present many of the same attribution problems encountered with those dated 1805. This Breen 1-A die variety is distinct, having a small D in UNITED and small A in STATES. The rim break over final S in STATES identifies this as the same reverse die used in 1805, and described as reverse B. When his Complete Encyclopedia, was published, Walter Breen assigned three catalogue numbers for major varieties of this date, comprising seven distinct die marriages.
