The motto IN GOD WE TRUST has been added to the reverse to bring this issue into conformity with the act of March 3, 1865. This coin is one of the finest survivors from a mintage of 116 Proof examples. Different types of finish are found on Proofs, including light and dark matte surfaces, and examples with satiny lustre. This lovely coin has satiny lustre, sometimes called Roman Gold, and is one of only two or three confirmed Proofs with this surface.
