All six denominations of the Amazonian gold pattern series have virtually identical obverse and reverse design elements. The head and eagle elements are assumed to have been created from a common model, and reduced to the proper size for each denomination. Following a note in the New Netherlands Coin Company’s June, 1970, catalogue, further investigation yields considerable design differences on both obverse and reverse among the six denominations. The shield has a different number of horizontal lines, the arrows are in slightly different positions and, on the obverse, the lower hair curls show considerably different treatment.

Provenance:
From Stack's sale of the DiBello Collection, May 1970, Lot 497.
Obverse:

Reverse:

Commentary:
"Reverse that used on Amazonian."
