This example completes the three-coin set of Amazonian patterns in silver, the others being displayed at HBCC-6096 and 6097. Possibly 15 examples of this pattern exist. In United States Patterns and Related Issues, Andrew W. Pollock, III, stated, “No doubt the term [Amazonian] was related to Miss Liberty’s warlike (with sword) pose, reminding one of the mythological female Amazonian warriors that are said to have lived in Scythia in Ancient times.”
