Mint records indicate 119 Proofs were struck; however, the surviving population suggests a smaller distribution. We estimate between 12 and 15 examples are known, with most of lower quality. This population suggests an original distribution in the range of 50 to 60 coins (survival of Proof coinage from this era seems to average 25%). The example displayed is an outstanding gem Proof, among the top two or three examples in terms of quality.
