Walter Breen identified five different varieties of 1800 half eagles, with three of these displayed as part of the Bass Collection. This outstanding Mint-State example is identified as Breen 1-A and appears to be the same coin he mentioned in his monograph as from the Gaylord Collection, sold by Mayflower Coin Auctions in 1963. Probably five or six examples of this variety are known.
