This is the third variety of 1795 Heraldic Eagle half eagle identified by Walter Breen in 1966. Only two varieties are believed to survive, with this being less rare than the other, displayed at HBCC-3050. This coin is an outstanding example and may be the finest known. Harry Bass acquired two examples of this variety. The obverse die of this variety is the same as seen at HBCC-3042. There are possibly as many as 40 examples of this die marriage in existence. Robert P. Hilt, II, placed the surviving population at 35 coins.
