This lovely example from the Bass Collection has a Small 5 in the denomination, with this font continued in use for the 1812 half eagles. The reverse die of this variety, however, appears to be unique to this single variety and not used in any other years. The reverse has a recut C in AMERICA. This choice Mint-State example may qualify as one of the finest known of this die marriage.

Purchased from William A. Mitkoff, June 6, 1975.

"Obverse: Small numerals. Faint shield clash below ear; faint clash evidence at junction of bust line and lowest left curl. Lapped. Reverse: Small 5, as used for 1810 reverse B. C recut. Vertical lump on beak below nostril hole."
