Walter Breen noted that some Proof examples are from the same obverse die used in 1865, while others are from an obverse die of 1867, implying that these constitute Originals and Restrikes. More likely, the various different dates utilized whatever dies were available, and should not be classified as Originals, Restrikes, early impressions, or late impressions. This lovely Proof example is one of 30 coined, with possibly 12 to 15 surviving today.
