Few patterns are known in nickel composition, since it is a very hard metal and is difficult to work. Just six or seven examples of this design are known, including some with reeded edge and others with plain edge. William H. Woodin once owned an example in nickel, struck outside the collar, much like this example. Perhaps these are the same coin. The proposed international coinage would have been valid as long as the exchange rate of currency remained the same from one country to another. Once the exchange rate changed, the international coin would become obsolete.
